Highway 101 Scene Of South Coast Car Chase Which Ends With Driver Apparently Poisoning Himself

The South Coast was the scene of an unusual car chase which ended when the man apparently poisoned himself.

The LAPD notified the CHP at around 7:30 Wednesday morning that a wanted rape suspect might be driving in Ventura County.   Moments later, an officer spotted the suspect’s SUV headed northbound on Highway 101 in Oxnard.

The driver refused to stop, leading to a six mile chase which ended when he stopped on the center divider. Officers say they found the man dead inside, along with evidence he poisoned himself. An autopsy is pending for the Camarillo man.

The incident briefly closed the 101. There were traffic delays through midday with some northbound lanes closed due to the investigation.
