Governor Signs Into Law Bill To Name Part Of South Coast Highway After Fallen Sheriff's Deputy

The governor signed into law legislation which will name part of a South Coast highway after a Ventura County Sheriff’s deputy killed in the line of duty.

Deputy Peter Aguirre, Junior died some 20 years ago, on July 17th, 1996, as he was investigating a domestic disturbance in Ojai. His killer is currently on California’s Death Row.

Legislation authored by Democratic Assemblywoman Jacqui Irwin of Thousand Oaks calls for Highway 33 from Ojai Avenue to Fairview Road to be named after Aguirre.

A ceremony is being planned to officially dedicate the section of roadway after the fallen officer, with the placement of a highway sign.
