Governor Signs Bill By Ventura County Legislator Intended To Help Veterans With Mental Health Issues

Veterans in California may find it easier to get mental health assistance, after the Governor signed into law a bill from a Ventura County legislator.

AB 2325 prevents California’s counties from denying mental or behavioral health serves to veterans.

Democratic State Assemblywoman Jacqui Irwin of Thousand Oaks authored the bill because she says counties have sometimes turned away veterans, and re-directed them to the VA. The legislation requires counties to step up to help, regardless of whether the veteran is eligible for VA services.

Irwin says due to limited resources, in some parts of the state VA mental health services aren’t easily accessible.
