Governor Makes 101 Expansion On South Coast High Priority

Governor Jerry Brown Friday announced a number of infrastructure projects which are being sent to President Trump for expedited review, and that list includes Santa Barbara County’s long sought Highway 101 expansion project.

The President asked states to prepare lists over their highest priority projects, so environmental and regulatory review could be expedited. The Governor’s top ten list included six highway projects, including the 101 expansion on the South Coast.

The project calls for adding northbound and southbound carpool lanes from Carpinteria to Montecito, taking that often congestion section of the 101 from two to three lanes in each direction. Preliminary work is already underway on the plan, in the form of rebuilding some 101 interchanges in Carpinteria to accommodate the extra lanes.
