Gang Member Convicted Of First Degree Murder For Death Of Bystander During Ventura County Gunfight

A Ventura County man could face life in prison without the possibility of parole after being convicted of taking part in a gang related gunfight which left a woman in a nearby home dead. It happened in March of 2014.

Prosecutors say Mark Martinez got into a confrontation with two rival gang members in a Santa Paula neighborhood. They say Martinez attacked them, and in an exchange of gunfire, one of the bullets from his gun went into a nearby house.

Norma Elizalde died in her High Street home.

The 36 year old Santa Paula man was convicted of first degree murder, and other charges, and will be sentenced in April.
