Former Santa County Barbara Employee Admits Charges For Theft Of More Than $2 Million From County

A longtime Santa Barbara County employee has pled guilty to theft of public funds, forgery, and conspiracy charges her role in an operation which stole more than two million dollars from the county.

Lynn Gay Hogan was a senior accountant with the County’s Public Works Department. Prosecutors say she created fake vendor numbers to make fraudulent payments to people, and organizations over a nine year long period.

It’s expected she’ll receive a nine year state prison sentence, and ordered to pay more than two million dollars in restitution. Hogan worked for the county for 28 years, and will lose part of her retirement benefits as a result of the convictions.

Eight others are still awaiting trial in connection with the money stolen from the county.
