Former Executive Reaches Plea Deal Over Criminal Charges From 2014 Explosion In Ventura County

Dozens were injured by the November, 2014 blast near Santa Paula

Ventura County prosecutors say a former executive with a wastewater disposal company entered guilty pleas to criminal charges from a toxic chemical explosion at the company’s facility.

Charles Mundy was a Vice President with the Santa Clara Waste Water Company. In November of 2014, a blast rocked the facility outside of Santa Paula, creating a toxic cloud which injured dozens.

Prosecutors say the Ventura man failed to report the presence of dangerous chemical at the site before the blast, and to first responders afterwards. They say he was responsible for some false documentation.

Mundy pled guilty, or no contest to a half dozen charges, and as a part of the plea agreement, will serve two years in custody.
