Firefighters Make Progress Towards Stopping Woolsey Fire, But Worry Santa Ana Winds Will Return

Firefighters made progress towards stopping the spread of the monster Woolsey Fire in Ventura and Los Angeles Counties Saturday, but warn a new round of wind could create new problems. The Woolsey fire remained at 70,000 acres burned Saturday, and crews gained 5% containment.

There’s still no official word on how many homes have been destroyed or damaged. The deaths of two people in Malibu are being investigated as possibly fire related. And, officials say two people were found in the driveway of a home with severe burns.

Officials caution the forecast calls for a new round of Santa Ana winds Sunday through Tuesday, with the potential for wind as strong if not stronger than what we had when the Woolsey fire started.

Evacuation orders were lifted Saturday for areas of Simi Valley and Thousand Oaks threatened by the fire.

Meanwhile, Ventura County residents impacted by the 4500 acre Hill Fire can go home. Evacuation orders were lifted for Camarillo Springs, Cal State Channel Islands, Dos Vientos, and the Vallecito Mobile Home Park.
