Firefighters Hope To Get Full Containment Of Holiday Fire Tuesday

Firefighters are close to full containment of a destructive brush fire on the South Coast which destroyed 13 homes.

The Holiday Fire north of Goleta is now at 95% containment, with full containment expected Tuesday night.

Firefighters are in the final stages of mopping up the 100 acre blaze, which roared through the hills north of Goleta Friday night. Strong wind made it impossible to control the fire during its first few hours.

The wind eased early Saturday morning, and firefighters were able to keep the fire from burning additional structures. The final tally includes 13 homes lost, and three damaged. 15 barns, and other outbuilding were also destroyed.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
