Firefighters Expect Full Containment Today Of 50 Acre Brushfire In Ventura County

Brush fire burns more than 40 acres of land northwest of Ventura

Ventura County firefighters say they expect to get full containment today of a brush fire outside of Ventura which caused a scare yesterday.

The 50 acre blaze was discovered just before 2 p.m. yesterday, near Casitas Vista Road. It’s northwest of Ventura off of Highway 33. The fire burned east, pushed by gusty wind. At one point, it threatened a youth camp. Helicopters helped stop the spread of the blaze, which is burning in some rugged hillside terrain. It was 50% contained by around 10 last night. Highway 33 was closed for a period yesterday afternoon and early evening, but reopened by around 6 p.m.

No structures have been damaged. Full containment is expected today. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Ventura County firefighters say they have the upper hand in a 50 acre brush fire outside of Ventura which at one point threatened some structures.

The blaze was discovered just before 2 p.m., near Casitas Vista Road. It’s northwest of Ventura off of Highway 33. The fire burned east, pushed by gusty wind. At one point, it threatened a youth camp, but the flames were stopped. Helicopters helped stop the spread of the blaze, which is burning in some rugged hillside terrain.

Highway 33 was closed for a period this afternoon and early evening, but has since been reopened. No structures have been damaged. There’s no word on when we’ll see containment of the fire.

Ventura County firefighters are making progress in dealing with a 40 acre brush fire outside of Ventura which at one point threatened some structures.

No containment is in sight, but the fire isn’t burning near homes. The blaze was discovered just before 2 p.m., near Casitas Vista Road. It’s northwest of Ventura, off of Highway 33. The fire burned east, pushed by gusty wind. Helicopters helped slow the spread of the blaze.

One of the biggest impacts is on Highway 33 traffic. The highway is closed at Casitas Vista Road, and traffic is being diverted onto surface roads. Officials are suggesting that people trying to travel between Ventura and Ojai go through Santa Paula, instead of attempting to use Highway 33.

No homes are being threatened, but there is a youth camp, and some power lines in the area which were at risk. Firefighters have knocked down most of the flames, but there’s no word yet on possible containment.\

It’s northwest of Ventura, off of Highway 33. The fire is burning east, being pushed by gusty wind. Firefighters are using helicopters and air tankers to try to stop the spread of the flames.

No homes are being threatened, but there is a youth camp, and some power lines in the area which could be at risk from the flames.

Firefighters say temperatures are only in the 60's, but the wind has been spreading the flames.  There's no word yet on possible containment.
