Containment is now up to 39% on Santa Barbara County's Rey wildfire, and firefighters are hoping to take advantage of milder weather in the forecast for the next few days to continue to make progress.
The week old blaze in the Los Padres National Forest has charred more than 31,000 acres. The fire began last Thursday afternoon, threatening some of the scattered homes and ranches in the Paradise Road area before pushing into wilderness areas. No structures have been reported damaged.
More than 2,000 people, along with 15 helicopters and a number of fixed wing aircraft are involved in the firefight. The hope is to have full containment by the middle of next week.
