Fiery Crash Claims Driver's Life On South Coast

Scorched brush on the side of highway 101 marks the spot of a fiery fatal accident that happened on Thursday.

The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the accident, which occurred around 8 p.m.; the traffic impact lasted more than two hours, with the freeway down to one lane.

Witness reported a white Subaru moving erratically, with its lights off, headed south on the freeway.

The vehicle ended up on fire and 50 feet off the roadway.

Carpinteria and Summerland firefighters eventually arrived at the scene, along with the California Highway Patrol.

The driver's identity has not been released.
