Dirt Cleanup From Mudflow Disaster Continues On South Coast Beaches

Heavy equipment has returned to both Goleta and Carpinteria beach, where piles of dirt from the January Mudflow disaster have hardened and need to be broken up.

The mounds of dirt came from the hills of Montecito and Carpinteria.

Some of the dirt will be smoothed out and pushed back into the ocean, while other parts will be hauled out into a dump in Upland.

It's all part of a process to restore the beaches to the condition they were in prior to the incident.

The work is being done in low tide, and prior to the grunion spawning season.
