Death Toll Up To 19 In Montecito Flooding; Four Still Missing

Search team members from San Bernardino County look at a house on East Valley Road in Montecito

The death toll has now reached 19 as a result of this week’s flooding in Santa Barbara County.

Authorities say the body of 25 year old Morgan Corey was found Saturday. Her 12 year old sister Sawyer had already been identified as a victim of the disaster. Santa Barbara County Sheriff Bill Brown says the number of those considered missing is down to five.

The Sheriff says it is still a search and rescue mission, and they are hoping to find more survivors as they go through the debris. More than 2000 people are involved in the search and rescue, and relief efforts, along with nearly 40 search dogs.

Officials on Saturday lifted evacuation orders for communities east of Montecito. They were lifted for areas south of Highway 192 from Ortega Ridge Road east to the Ventura County line, including Carpinteria and Summerland. Also, evacuation orders were lifted for areas north of Highway 192 from Toro Canyon Road east to the Ventura County line.
