Community Bike Ride On South Coast This Week Highlights New Bike Repair Stations

While professional cyclists are competing throughout California, some amateur bicyclists in Ventura County will be on their own bike ride.

As part of Bike to Work Week, the Ventura County Fire Department is partnering with the Ventura County Transportation Commission to host a free 14-mile bike ride from Newbury Park to Camarillo on Thursday morning. Fire Captain Stan Ziegler says members of the community will join firefighters for the ride.

"To highlight the 18 new bike repair stations that have been installed since last year around the county on fairly heavily traveled bike routes, most of which are installed at fire stations in the county," he says.

The bike repair stations feature an air pump, tools and mounts so riders can securely hang a bike, change a tire or adjust brakes.

The ride kicks off at 9 am on Thursday at Newbury Park Bicycle Shop and ends at Fire Station 50 in Camarillo.
