Central Coast University Winner Of State Voter Registration Competition

A Central Coast university is being recognized as the first winner of what’s called the Statewide University and College Ballot Bowl.

It was a contest started by the Secretary of State’s office to boost voter registration of college students.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo was the winner, with 3,178 students being signed up to vote last year.  That was almost a third of the students who were registered in the competition statewide.

California Secretary of State Alex Padilla visited Cal Poly today to meet with students and present the university with a Ballot Bowl trophy.  Padilla says they’re hoping for an even bigger statewide voter registration push next year for the 2020 presidential election.  Among the state schools, UC Santa Barbara had the largest overall number of students registered to vote last year.
