Central Coast University Gets Federal Grant To Help At-Risk Public School Students With College

A Central Coast university has received a major federal grant to help at risk junior, and senior high school students have a better chance of doing well enough to get into college.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo received a $1.2 million dollar U.S. Department of Education grant to support the university’s Educational Talent Search program. The five year grant will support 500 students a year in the program, which helps public school students with everything from preparing for admissions tests to academic and financial counseling.

Cal Poly officials say 92% of high school students who took part in the program last year went on to college.
