Central Coast City Gets Familiar Face In Region's Firefighting Community As New Fire Chief

A longtime Santa Barbara County firefighter has come out of retirement to head a Central Coast fire department.

Jerry Kuras is Lompoc’s new Fire Chief. He fills the vacancy created by the retirement of Kurt Latipow in May.

Kuras spent more than 30 years with the Santa Barbara County Fire department before retiring in 2011.

He started his new job this week.

Lance Orozco has been News Director of KCLU since 2001, providing award-winning coverage of some of the biggest news events in the region, including the Thomas and Woolsey brush fires, the deadly Montecito debris flow, the Borderline Bar and Grill attack, and Ronald Reagan's funeral.
