Central Coast Brush Fire Mushrooms In Size; Hits 3400 Acres Burned

Alamo brush fire passes 3,000 acres burned Friday night

A brush fire burning in two counties on the Central Coast has grown to more than 3,000 acres in size.

The Alamo Fire is burning around the Santa Barbara County-San Luis Obispo County line close to Twitchell Reservoir.

The fire began Thursday afternoon, and firefighters aided by air tankers stopped the spread of the flames by around sunset Thursday night. But, extreme heat contributed to a flareup Friday, with the fire going from 175 acres Thursday night to more than 3,000 by the same time Friday night.  Containment is at 10%.

A huge plume of smoke from the blaze is visible in the Santa Maria area, even the fire is several miles away, in a remote canyon area.

While the area is sparsely populated, an Evacuation Warning is in effect for the Tepesquet and Buckhorn areas. and a mandatory order is in place for for Blazing Saddles area, as well as the White Rock area.
