Celebration of William Shakespeare on South Coast Marks 400th Anniversary of His Death

Decor from the "Shakespeare-a-thon" at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks

Lucy Ferrier from Santa Paula reads one of her favorite Shakespearean sonnets.

“Shakespeare really speaks to the human condition and the human heart," she said. "Things we’re feeling and fearing and dealing with today.”

It was 24-hours from 4 pm Saturday through 4 pm Sunday of EVERYTHING Shakespeare at California Lutheran University in Thousand Oaks. It included a candlelight reading of Macbeth and morning yoga incorporating Shakespeare quotes.

It was organized by the Kingsmen Shakespeare Company, whose associate artistic director Brett Elliott does a little Shakespeare himself by reciting a sonnet by Shakespeare.

“It’s really uniting," he said. "I feel bound and connected to these other people who love this work as much as I do.”
