Brush Fire Burns More Than 700 Acres Of Land In Santa Barbara County; 5% Contained

Firefighters are battling a 700 acre plus brush fire which is burning out of control in a remote area of Santa Barbara County.

What’s known as the Front Fire is burning in the Los Padres National Forest northwest of Santa Maria.

The fire started at around 1:30 Sunday afternoon in the Rock Front Ranch area.

No structures are reported threatened, but the blaze closed Highway 166. It’s one of the main highways between the Central Coast and California’s Central Valley.

Firefighters say they have 5% containment of the blaze, but because of the rugged terrain full containment could take days.
