Body of Missing Woman Discovered In Montecito; Death Toll from January 9th Floods Now Up To 21

The body of one of the three still missing people from the January 9th flooding in Santa Barbara County has been discovered, bringing the death toll to 21, with two people still missing.

A search and recovery dog team found the body of a woman on the 100 block of Santo Tomas Lane near Olive Mill Road, above Coast Village Road in Montecito Saturday morning.

The Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office identified the body as that of 28-year-old Faviola Benitez Calderon of Montecito. Her 10 year old son, as well as two other relatives are also among the victims.

Meanwhile, Caltrans officials say Highway 101 in Montecito will be ready for commuters on Monday morning. Crews are still working around the clock on cleanup and repair efforts, but they say it will be ready to go for the new work week. The key link between Ventura, and Santa Barbara Counties has been closed since the deadly flooding nearly two weeks ago.
