Boaters Found Safe In Channel Islands; Misunderstanding Prompts Search

It was a big search for a missing boat in the Channel Islands, with three people on board. A Coast Guard cutter, a helicopter, and the Ventura Harbor Patrol were all involved in efforts to find a sailboat. But, it turned out the whole thing was a misunderstanding.

A panicked woman called for help last night, when her husband failed to return home from a trip. It prompted the search. Coast Guard officials found the three people on Santa Cruz Island this morning, safe and sound.

They say it turned out the woman misunderstood how long they would be gone, and the trip was supposed to last until Thursday. Because they were on the back side of Santa Cruz Island, they were unreachable by cell phone.
