Bill By State Senator From Santa Barbara To Help Disabled Veterans With Jobs On Governor's Desk

A bill authored by a state senator from Santa Barbara to help disabled veterans keep their new jobs in education has been passed by the state legislature, and is now on the Governor’s desk awaiting his action.

SB 1180 gives disabled veterans who are new school employees extra sick leave so they can attend VA and other medical appointments without endangering their jobs. Depending on the position, the veterans would be eligible for 10 to 12 days of medical leave during their first year of employment.

The bill by Democratic State Senator Hannah-Beth Jackson received bipartisan support in the legislature.
