Bear Wanders Onto South Coast Beach; Eventually Has To Be Euthanized

A bear which made a surprising appearance at a South Coast beach has been euthanized.

The 250 plus pound black bear turned up at Rincon Beach Saturday afternoon, near the Ventura-Santa Barbara County line. The bear was seen by a number of beachgoers as it wandered around, and eventually camped out of a hill above the beach. When the bear failed to head back into the mountains, State Fish and Wildlife wardens tranquilized it Sunday morning.

It was taken to a veterinary facility, but experts determined the old bear was in poor health, and needed to be euthanized.
