Authorities Say Threat From Rye Brush Fire To Eastern Ventura County Diminished

Meanwhile, efforts to stop another brush fire which had been causing concern in Ventura County are going well.

The 7,000 acre Rye Fire started near Interstate 5 and Highway 126 in the Santa Clarita area Tuesday.

The fire started to move west towards Simi Valley. There was concern earlier in the week that the fire might move into the northern part of the city, or perhaps even Moorpark. However, the more than 900 firefighters battling the blaze stopped it near the LA-Ventura County line, and the threat to Eastern Ventura County has diminished.

The Rye Fire only destroyed one structure, but more than 5400 buildings are still considered to be in the danger zone.
