Authorities Identify Santa Barbara County Men Killed When Car Plunges Down Mountainside

Authorities have now identified two men who died when the vehicle were in plunged hundreds of feet down an embankment in Santa Barbara County.

David Esquivel of Santa Maria and Oscar Hernandez of Lompoc were last seen alive September 7th.

A hang glider pilot spotted the wreckage of the car they were in Sunday, at the bottom of a cliff on the 3400 block of Gibraltar Road.

The Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue team had to lower personnel 600 feet down the mountainside to recover the bodies of the men, who had been thrown from the vehicle.

Autopsies are pending on the men, who were both in their early 20’s.
