101 Closure In Montecito Due To Flash Flooding In Santa Barbara County Now Called "Indefinite"

Caltrans and CHP officials say damage to Highway 101 from Tuesday's flash flood in Santa Barbara County is worse than thought, and the full highway closure in Montecito is now being called "indefinite."

Crews had originally hoped to reopen the section of highway on Monday.

Still, there are alternatives.  Amtrak service resumed Thursday between Ventura and Santa Barbara, with additional cars being added to some trains to help meet increased demand.   And, boats operated by Island Packers in Ventura County, and Condor Express in Santa Barbara are offering special ferry service between the cities. You can make the trip via Interstate 5, but the route adds hours to what would normally be a half-hour drive from Ventura to Santa Barbara.
