Two traffic accidents disrupt traffic on Highway 101 in Santa Barbara County

Traffic is once again flowing normally on Highway 101 in Central Santa Barbara County, but that definitely wasn’t the case this morning. A series of traffic accidents involving a half dozen vehicles closed down the northbound 101 near the Gaviota Rest Stop for nearly three hours.

It started around six this morning, when a half dozen northbound vehicles were involved in an accident. A northbound tractor trailer rig swerved to avoid the wreckage, but its trailer overturned, dumping thousands of agricultural packing boxes onto the freeway.

The mess completely blocked the northbound 101 until around 9 a.m., while the southbound fast lane was closed for about 90 minutes. The CHP is still investigating what led to the accidents. No injuries were reported.
