Media star and Montecito resident Oprah Winfrey, along with Beanie Baby billionaire Ty Warner, have professed their thanks to first responders after the Thomas Fire and Montecito Mudflow.

They held a private party and dinner at the San Ysidro Ranch in the Montecito foothills last weekend for more than 100 firefighters and special guests at the exclusive location.

Firefighters have 60% containment Friday morning of a brush fire burning on one of the Channel Islands.

It’s a documentary about a group of skateboarders. But it’s much more. “Virgin Blacktop” is really a movie about how a group of kids bonded over skateboarding, and became lifelong friends. The project which features more than four decades worth of film will make its world premiere on the Central Coast this weekend, as part of the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival.

An earthquake rocked parts of the Central and South Coasts Wednesday.

The magnitude 3.7 quake was centered in an isolated area of Central California. But, people reported feeling the 10:05 a.m. quake in the San Luis Obispo area, which is 37 miles southwest of the epicenter.

And, some people reported feeling it in the Santa Barbara and Goleta areas, even though they are about 70 miles southwest of the epicenter.

There are no reports of damage, or injuries.

The Santa Barbara Police Department has unveiled a new vehicle it calls a DRAGG Car. DRAGG (Drag Racing Against Gangs and Graffiti) is a non-profit educational organization for students.

Nine people reportedly suffered from a drug overdose in Isla Vista Thursday night around 10:30.

Santa Barbara County sheriff's deputies, fire personnel, and paramedics were called to the scene.

A multiple casualty incident was declared, requiring more emergency workers.
